Shayne is a professional and community leader who actively serves as a mentor, trainer, and advocate. He serves on several Boards of Directors (including the Chattanooga ISSA, 2019 Chapter of the Year), has provided training at national conferences, has been published internationally, served as an examiner for Tennessee’s state-level agency for the National Baldrige Awards, and as a mentor for SANS. He has worked to reduce IT risk by implementing robust internal control systems both as a practitioner and as an auditor. When combined with his education, drive for process improvement, demonstrated knowledge and leadership Shayne is a proven asset to the profession.
Shayne Champion is Conversant Group’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). With almost 30 years in Information Technology (IT) and Cyber Security experience spanning a wide range of technical domains, Shayne has built, worked in, lead, and/or managed a wide variety of IT organizations. Previous roles include the Systems Security Officer (SSO) for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s government business units, Senior Program Manager of Power Operations Cyber Security at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and the Director of Information Security and Architecture at Erlanger Health System (the nation’s 6th largest public health system). He has earned numerous professional certifications including GSEC, CISSP, and CISA and completed his undergraduate degree at Covenant College and was awarded an MBA from Bryan College.
Given his mix of technical and business skills, Shayne believes that one of the greatest strengths he brings to Conversant Group and its customers is a hard-earned understanding of the relationship between technology and business. Technology only exists to support the business’s goals, and cyber security should only serve those as an enabler. As a result, he takes great focus and pride to understand the business needs of Conversant’s clients and to help them design a functional and sustainable security program.
